Moving out after the borg
by happy@last ini was delighted to hear of adjustments news, but it did remind me of what i'm sure a lot go through when they leave, here's a little of my story:.
when i married as a jw, and when we moved there was always a team of willing volunteers happy to drive the van or move the furniture or decorate.
additonally when you get married you have a list of items people want to buy for you, even if some had odd taste we received lots of needed and wanted items, sometimes 2 or 3 of the same type.. as a da'd person, also seperated from my spouse i needed to move home.

A QUESTION FOR JW'S who say, "The brothers were overly zealous" about 1975
by Terry in"what was the actual significance of that year, then?".
if jw's were overly zealous, what was the exact amount of zeal encouraged by the wts for a non-event which took up.
over 7 years of every jw's time?.

Separation of Powers
Being "overly zealous" is an indication of the hype surrounding the year. Most JW's wanted the end to come to justify their SPECIALNESS. When it didn't, well, it's easier to blame the result of the unrequited hype, then to accept that you followed an oracle with no credibility.

I don't understand the psyche of JW
by bobld inthe majority have good jobs, drive newer vehicles, have nice homes,go on vacations.all in all they have the smarts.. however, rwhen it comes to their religion, they are dummer than a sack of hammers.they drive around in circles to get two hours of service time.they can't differentiate what the fds/gb say is from jehovah god, when in reality it is the stuff that comes out of a horses ass.what the horse eats(as it were food at the proper time from the gb) comes out of the horse as manure(shit sounds better) as a loving provision from jehovah.. .

Separation of Powers
On the cusp of greatness, everyone wants to be special. Tell someone that THEY and only THEY have the TRUTH and that everyone else will DIE and only THEY will live, then everything else goes out the window and you have made ordinary people into egocentrical maniacs.

Separation of Powers
Julia' s point is well made. One becomes so indoctrinated that life outside the ORG is "too scary" and so they stay in. In essence, it becomes their culture just as much as the Amish or Yassidic Jew for that matter.
Most, however, are not that way. Most of the kids I see in the hall are not really "witnesses" in the same way I was a "witness" as a young man. They go to clubs, party, drink way more than I ever did at that age, and do absolutely nothing to "promote Kingdom interests." Bethel service is rarely mentioned among the young men. They are interested in what every other young person wants....independence.
I woudl venture to say that when most fly the coop of their parent's supervision, they will rarely if ever be seen at some "theocratic" activity except for assemblies to scope out chicks or get togethers to scope out chicks.

What Was Your Opinion of Elder's Wives?
by minimus ini think that many of them were saints.
some were bitches and others seemed like they hated their status.
many wives were very good examples and were more "qualified" than their elder husbands.. .

Have seen both sides. Some were phenomenal examples of faith and christian values.

The Present Truth is the Truth and the Old Truth is the Truth, even if they contradict.
by garyneal inthat is the conclusion you must accept if you are a jehovah's witness as my wife tries to explain to me that even if what they are teaching today contradicts what they were previously teaching, they had the truth then and they have the truth now.
the difference is, they (the witnesses and the governing body) simply believed that what they were teaching at the time was the truth but when they discovered new information they adjusted their thinking.
so since they formerly believed it to be the truth, they were in the truth.. an example she gave involved people who once believed the earth was flat.

Separation of Powers
In a HUGE discussion with a loyal friend who will not throw me under the bus for my current position (hopefully), this same attitude came up. He was vehement in his loyalty to the "channel of truth."
My comment to him, "You, all of us, are entitled to our opinion. But, we are not entitled to a set of truths that are not, in fact, truths. Reality is reality, it may be perceived differently by you, but you can not deny it. It is, and always will be, the determining factor in any argument, position, or belief. Don't allow an organization to dissuade you from recognizing a falsehood or set of falsehoods by skewing your perception of reality."

Not on JW.org: SIX Texas victims acuse Jehovah's Witness Elder & Circuit Overseer of sexual abuse, and bring lawsuit against Watchtower for cover-up.

Just wait until the Candace Conti issue is litigated to the full. If she wins NO amount of legal representation will be able to address the maelstrom!

Throw Out Your Blood Cards!
by Coded Logic inex-jehovah's witness bled to death after surgery .
in 2006, riddell signed a declaration that she did not want to be given blood during any medical procedure because of her jehovah's witness beliefs, even if healthcare providers believed that it was necessary to preserve her life.. she later stopped practising the religion but her brother told hill she maintained the declaration because she had researched the use of blood transfusions and made an informed decision not to receive any blood.. riddell opted for the surgery after being diagnosed with symptomatic gallstones, hill said.. parry met with riddell before the surgery but did not discuss receiving blood with her as he told hill the chances of someone bleeding during the surgery were less than one per cent.. that meant the surgery began at wairau hospital at 9am without parry knowing about the declaration, although his anaesthetist did.. it was originally supposed to be a keyhole only surgery, but parry made the decision to go to an open surgery as he could not access the gall bladder through the keyhole technique.. during the surgery there was a small amount of bleeding, which parry was unconcerned about.. the surgery finished at 11.15am and parry went away to perform another surgery.
during that time, riddell's blood pressure dropped and fluids increased.. the anaesthetist visited parry during his surgery and told him "we have a problem, she's bleeding.

Separation of Powers
I know a lot of people that couldn't live the life of a witness or chose not to, only to die the death of a witness by not choosing blood. The sad fact is that most do not even know that almost every aspect of blood is now acceptable, or at least so freakin muddled is the explanation that one could easily opt to take some significant component of blood and STILL be ok.
In any event, even as a witness, it is YOUR decision between you and your doctor. It is private and nobody has the right to know what you decide, witness or not.
As stated, what a waste.
